History of IT College
IT College or Isabella Thoburn College, Lucknow was founded by Ms. Isabella Thoburn. The college is the first Christian College for women in South Asia. Ms. Isabella Thoburn, was the first American woman Methodist missionary to sail to India in 1869.
Originally, on 18 April 1870, she opened school for girls is one room in city-centre bazaar of Aminabad with just 6 girls. Next year in 1871, the school was moved to a housed named Lal Bagh, the house of the treasurer of the last Nawab of Awadh. Later on 12 July 1886, school was renamed as Lucknow Women’s College and started Fine Arts classes under the supervision of the University of Calcutta. In 1894, the college get affiliation from Allahabad University.
Isabella Thoburn College got its present name, after death of Miss Thoburn in 1901 due to cholera, to honour her. During the Principalship of Ms. Florence Nichols, in 1923, the College became a separate institution and moved to the Chand Bagh (Moon Garden) estate of almost 32 acres, where it has remained until the present day.
The College is now affiliated to Lucknow University. The buildings it has developed on the Chand Bagh campus since the 1920s include student hostels, lecture rooms, laboratories, a library, a College chapel and a large hall. The College teaches five undergraduate courses, leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), and Bachelor of Library and Information Science (BLISc). It also offers nine postgraduate courses leading to the degrees of Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.).

UNDER GRADUATE COURSES:
There are three Under Graduate Courses running in the College-
- BACHELOR OF ARTS (B.A.)
Eligibility:
i. 45% marks in aggregate in Intermediate or equivalent examination recognized by the Lucknow University.
ii) Candidates wishing to offer English Literature are required to have 50% marks or above in English in the Intermediate or equivalent Examination.
Note-
In the third year the candidate will have to opt for two of her three subjects.
Transfer from one subject to another is permissible only within ten days from the date of the commencement of the classes.

POST GRADUATE COURSES:
- M.Sc. BIO TECHNOLOGY
Eligibility:
A Graduate Degree in B.Sc. (Biology) or B.Sc. (Biotechnology) or B.Sc. (Biochemistry) or B.Sc. (Life Science) or B.Sc. (Microbiology) B.Tech. (Biotechnology) or B.D.S. from a recognised university with a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate in graduation.
- M.Sc. CHEMISTRY
Eligibility:
A Graduate Degree in B.Sc. (Biology) or B.Sc. (Mathematics) with chemistry (in all three years) from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in graduation.
- M.Sc. NUTRITION
Eligibility:
A Graduate Degree in B.Sc. (H.Sc.) with Nutrition/Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics or B.Sc. (Biology) with Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in graduation.
- M.Sc. ZOOLOGY
Eligibility:
A Graduate Degree in B.Sc. (Biology) with zoology (in all three years) from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in graduation.
M.A. COURSES
- M.A. ECONOMICS
Eligibility:
A Graduate Degree in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in graduation.
- M.A. ENGLISH
Eligibility:
A Graduate Degree from a recognised university with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in graduation.
All students are required to appear in an interview.
- M.A. GEOGRAPHY
Eligibility:
A Graduate Degree in B.A. with Geography from a recognised university with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in graduation.
- M.A. SOCIOLOGY
Eligibility:
A Graduate Degree from a recognised university with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in graduation.
- M.A. WOMEN’S STUDIES
Eligibility:
A Graduate Degree in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in graduation.
NOTE: ADMISSION TO ALL POST GRADUATE COURSES WILL BE DONE ON THE BASIS OF MERIT. THE MERIT LIST OF THE SELECTED STUDENTS WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE COLLEGE NOTICE BOARD.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Students with Science or Commerce in graduation are required to have minimum of 60%
Students with science in graduation applying for admission to M.A. are required to have a minimum of 55% marks in graduation.
Students who don’t have the subject in B A III year in which they are applying in M A should have a minimum of 55% in graduation.
VOCATIONAL COURSES:
Eligibility:
Under the Vocational Courses scheme at the Under Graduate level, UGC has approved introduction of three subjects Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics Computer Application and Physical Education. These subjects are currently running in the college.
Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics is offered to B.Sc. Home Science students while Computer Application and Physical Education are offered to B.A. students.
All students who opt for Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics or Computer Application will be required to pay a Vocational Subject fee of Rs. 5000/- per annum (subject to revision). The student will have to continue the vocational subject till the final year of study.
For Physical Education, participation in games at intermediate level is desirable for admission to this subject. All students who opt for Physical Education as a subject will be required to pay a subject fee of : 3000/- per annum (subject to revision).

- B.L.I.Sc.
Bachelor of library and information science (B.L.I.Sc.) is a one year degree course running under the Lucknow university.
- B.Ed.
BACHELOR OF EDUCATION 2 Year degree course 2018-2020 only for Christian Minority Candidates
ELIGIBILITY:
Minimum qualification for the admission to the bachelor of Library and Information Science is a bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Science or Commerce of a recognized University with at least second division (secured 48% marks).
Minimum qualification for B.L.Isc is 50%
Minimum qualification for B.Ed is 50%
NOTE:
Those candidates who have appeared in the final year of B.A/B.Sc./B.Com., and those who are awaiting their results are also eligible to apply for admission.
